The D-Link Wireless N Router (DIR-615) provides a better wireless signal for your network than existing wireless 802.11g technology. Upgrading your home to Wireless N provides an excellent solution for sharing an Internet connection and files such as video, music, photos, and documents. D-Link Wireless N products use Intelligent Antenna technology to transmit multiple streams of data which enable you to receive wireless signals in the farthest corners of your home. Not only does D-Link's Wireless N technology extend your wireless range, it also works with your existing 802.11g and 802.11b wireless devices. The DIR-615 supports the latest wireless security features to help prevent unauthorized access, be it from over a wireless network or from the Internet. Support for WEP, WPA, and WPA2 standards ensure that you will be able to use the best possible encryption, regardless of your client devices. In addition, this Wireless N router utilizes dual active firewalls (SPI and NAT) to prevent potential attacks from across the Internet

What Customers Say About D-Link Wireless DIR-615 N Router, 4-Port 10/100 Switch, 2 Antennas, Draft 802.11n:

The router's range is about 3 feet, then the signal drops off like crazy. Good thing I still knew my password. However, if like normal people, you will want to move further away than that, your connection will be dropped. I was swindled. The antennae are not even detachable, so that you can upgrade them.
But, I have to admit. My beef with the router is the signal strength/range. If you will use this router for a wireless device that is only 3 feet away, you'll probably be fine. I advise you think long and hard about these points I mentioned, before you decide whether to buy this router or not.Oh, I've also experienced the problem whereby the router will not reset to factory default. I got this router on what I thought was a special, since I only paid $19.99 for it.
The router is, honestly, not even worth $9.99. Perhaps the router is cheap because you will need to supplement it with a WAP (access point).
I did have some problems the first couple of weeks with it losing connection overnight every few days. I'm happy with the purchase especially when most wireless N routers are sometimes more than double the price. I've had this router for about 2 months, and so far it has been a pretty good buy. But for the past month or so I haven't had any problems.
The modem is an RCA Thomson DHG536).) Using the provided cd setup was super easy for the desktop. ((My ISP is Comcast (with TV, telephone, and internet). D-Link tech support for the netbook problem was there after the third ring and information exchange was good although at times I had to request he speak slower and more clearly (off-shore.).MaximumPC (Feb 2010) has this DIR-615 rated a "9" which is why I bought it. My DIR-615(N) is only 4 days old and is working just fine with no drop-outs. (Currently using WPA).It's on 24/7 and has been running cool to the touch. Had a problem when I tried to setup my netbook for wireless but it turned out to be operator - my error.
Fast and reliable. I didn't even have to reset the modem. I am running Vista-64 on an HP system and have a Comcast voice and data modem. I inserted the CD, followed the instructions and it worked with no problem. My laptop is running Ubuntu Linux with a Belkin card.
Netmask is 255.255.255.0, router or default route is 192.168.0.1, and DNS server is 192.168.0.1.Some people were able to replace the firmware with dd-wrt, but I was unable to do so. That's a solution only for advanced users, in any case. This has been a known issue with the DIR-615 for some time, with lots of reports of the problem in the official support forum and elsewhere.Wireless clients can generally be configured to accept a "manual" or "static" IP address. On the router's internal log, there's a long sequence of entries of the form, "Wireless system with Mac address [numbers separated by colons] disassociate reason 8". It's possible to work around this shortcoming by manually configuring wireless clients with specific IP addresses. This would be a good wireless router overall, and a good bargain, if it weren't for the buggy DHCP, which most would consider a core feature of a wireless router. Perhaps D-Link will eventually over a firmware upgrade to fix this -- meanwhile, this bug is a serious shortcoming to an otherwise good wireless router, and people who want a reliable plug-and-play option should not use this router. The problem manifests as a wireless client failing to complete connection to the router. The straightforward approach is to assign each device an IP address starting with 192.168.0.2, each device getting a unique IP.
